Fallen Angels follow
the Devil to their Destruction

In the past, Satan and his fallen angels rebelled against God. The Dragon and his fallen angels lost the war in Heaven. The fallen angels or dimming stars have no hope or future with their Creator.

7And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him (Rev. 12:7–9, NIV).

 Fallen Angles and Satan

Jesus said that … there was war in heaven. The angels of God fought against … the dragon and his angels. The Almighty and his angels threw Satan and his evil angels onto the earth. I understand that this happened before the creation of man on earth. The Bible doesn’t give us many answers as to why Satan and his fallen angels rebelled against God. Several verses in the OT do give us some background.

12How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” 15But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit (Isa. 14:12–15, NIV).

12”Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “ ‘You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty....  17Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings’ “ (Ezek. 28:12, 17, NIV).

My heart trembled when I read these verses about Satan, the bright morning star. I can’t believe he was so stupid! Think about a created angel who was perfect, blameless, beautiful, and full of wisdom. God created him as an anointed cherub over many other angels. As one of the cherubim, he was one of the highest created beings. God used them to cover and protect his creation.

The Creator covered the angel Satan with the finest gems in the universe. He was next to God in the structure of heaven. Then pride overtook Satan: he wanted to ascend … above the stars of God, or the other created angels. The sly serpent tried to make himself equal with God. He wasted his position!

Fallen Angels Hate Christians

Perhaps we could understand why the fallen angels hate God’s children today if we look at the past. For unknown millenniums of time, the created angels stood in the very presence of God. They felt his love, peace, joy, and power without end. Everything in their existence was perfect.

Suddenly, their leader swelled with pride. The dragon's defective mind led him to think that he was better then his Creator. He rebelled against God and carried one third of the angels with him. They fell from God’s grace: there was no forgiveness!

The party was over. Their relationship with their Maker was finished never to return. Did Satan and his fallen angels think that the Eternal God would do nothing? Did the Devil think that he could make a fool out of his Holy Creator? The Alpha and Omega condemned Satan and his fallen angels to this earth.

The Absolute Judge cast Satan and his fallen angels into the Abyss after the cross (Eph. 4:8; Heb. 2:14). They tied the Devil and his angels with a great chain and only gave the demons limited freedom to harass people—see Revelation 9:1. Why didn’t God just give the fallen angels their sentence when they rebelled? The Christians on earth would have a much easier life without the kingdom of darkness on earth.

I stand in awe when I think about this. I do not understand why all the events took place. Unlike the fallen angels, I live at the foot of the cross. When I make a mistake and sin, I know that my Redeemer will forgive me because of his unending love and grace. Yet, our Savior didn’t forgive the evil angels

We Have—They Have Not

The fallen angels had no hope for the future; their attitude deteriorated. Bitterness, anger, and jealously consumed the thoughts of the angels. The fallen angels began to vent their evil thoughts at the Savior and his Church. The children of God have what the fallen angels can never have.

Satan falls from the top of the mountain in Heaven down to the lowest place. He will go where the worm does not die and the fire never goes out (Mark 9:48). Because the Devil’s kingdom has no hope for pleasure in eternal life, they try to destroy their Creator’s children. Satan has no mercy on any Christian. He will hurt them as much as God permits.

The fallen angels lost much. We might feel compassion for them until we consider the hurt and the deception they cause for God’s children. The evil serpent gives distress and problems to millions of people who don’t know how to defend themselves.
